Bono is discussing the fact that President Obama was given the Nobel Peace Prize and his position is that he deserved the award for his "noble" intentions when it comes to solving issues like global poverty. Bono believes that the award serves as a motivating factor for Mr. Obama to come through on the intentions he claimed he had in his campaign.
ReplyDeleteI completely disagree (Though, I'm sure this does not surprise you). I do not believe good intent warrants a reward in this case. The Nobel Peace Prize is a highly significant and revered award. If President Obama's "intentions" are deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize, I too, should receive one. Anyone can run for office and have the desire to change the world for the better, that is not sufficient enough to have one be remembered for ages. What's more, those who receive this award are meant to be highly regarded for ages, even after, they pass away for their work in the world. President Obama has done no great, life-changing work in the world except ruin the American economy and that certainly does not warrant the reception of a great honor.
-A Highly Opinionated, Talayne Gardiner :)
In this editorial Bono is discussing the controversial issue of President Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. He believes that he definitely deserves the award. He believes that him winning is above all else a symbol of noble intentions and longing for resolution. He believes that it is a symbol of recognition for not only what he has accomplished, but for what he wishes to accomplish. He wants to abolish issues like Global poverty, Global hunger, and Global warming. This in Bonos eyes deems him an acceptable honoree. Bono believes that the award serves as motivation for President Obama to follow up on his awe inspiring and necessary goals
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with Bonos opinion on the topic at hand. President Obama is attempting to make changes that will greatly increase the state of not only America, but the entire world. Although right now he only has ideas and a lot of ambition, I believe that, that is the origin for all monumental change. “We will support the Millennium Development Goals, and approach next year’s summit with a global plan to make them a reality. And we will set our sights on the eradication of extreme poverty in our time.” This shows that he is completely dedicated to not only reaching goals for a better world, but far surpassing them. He has the power, and authentic ambition and drive. He deserves the Noble Peace Prize not only for his intentions, but as a symbol of international hope. He has the resources and since I believe he will follow through with them, I agree he is worthy of such a prestige prize.
-Joseph Fiddmont
The American Economy was in a pitifully weakened state long before President Obama entered office.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bono in the belief that President Barack Obama undoubtedly deserved the Nobel Peace Prize. Also, accepting it serves as a “call to action” to tackle the Millenium Development Goals referenced, one of them being, to halve the poverty rate in the United States by the year 2015. However, it is more than the “36 words” Bono alludes to that makes Obama worthy of the Noble Peace Prize. President Barack Obama has turned over a new coin for America in proving that we have grown as a country, in the idea that he was chosen by the majority to become our president. Since becoming President, Obama has reached out to build steady alliances with foreign lands, such as the Arab World wherein they are able to peacefully speak. He has shown to the Muslim World that they are not our enemy. Are showing signs of the reversal of the controversial past 8 years left by the Bush Regime just not “sufficient” enough to be deemed worthy?
President Barack Obama is doing the best he can under the wretched mental and economic circumstances that this country was left in. Although, Obama himself stated that he was not worthy of such an honor, I believe that the Nobel Peace Prize Committee was correct in their decision in awarding President Barack Obama the Nobel Peace Prize.

Bono is discussing how President Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize by his intended actions he has planned to do. He believes that this award will serve as a motivational drive towards actions Obama intends to accomplish.
ReplyDeletePresident Obama is attempting to make changes, but right now he only has ideas. We have to be patient and look at the fact that Obama was left with a lot of work to fix. It takes time to fix issues especially with the economic crises he has come into. I agree with Bono, President Obama deserves this award because it shows that he his determined and dedicated to reach and successfully accomplish goals he has promised to set out.

In the op-ed, Bono is discussing how he feels that President Obama definitely deserves the Nobel Peace prize award. He also feels that President Obama has been constantly trying his very best to fix the mess that America has turned into. He believes that Obama receiving this award is only another stepping stone to help motivate himself to accomplishing his goal of fixing the USA as a whole.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Bono's position on our President receiving this award. He truly deserves to be honored with such an prestigious award due to all of the work that he's done. As long as President Obama stays determined he's going to do to help rebuild America.
- Jay Carter
In the editorial Bono is discusing President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize and the effect it will have on the world. That he didn't win it for what he has accomplished already, but for the plans he has for the entire world and the inspiration he gives people. How even though President Obama wasn't there 9 years ago for the Millennium Development Goals his commitment and aspirations to further them are inspiration for the world and give everyone something to believe in.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Bono's opinion that President Obama deserves the Nobel Piece Prize for the good he plans to do in this world. Obama's genuiness has given the whole world hope of a brighter day and a better future. Of America being the leader in the world uniting and elmininating the 3 extremes the world faces in poverty, ideology, and the climate. Obama has broken the mindset of everyone looking out for themselves and as a united people we can overcome these 3 extremes and this is why he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

ReplyDeleteIn the op editorial, Bono, the lead singer of the U2 discusses the issue of President Barrack Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. I must say that Talayne's argument wasn't quite the "silppery slope" and of course it wasn't suprising, but it was valid and indeed logical
ReplyDeleteHowever, I agree with Bono for the simple fact that Obama's attempt to change should be worth something. Although I don't think it necessarily should have been a Nobel Peace Prize, but his ideas and intentions are both concrete and meaningful to this country. Therefore making him a recipent, in my opinion, of the "future" Nobel Peace Prize. Personally, I think we should be proud that he is attempting to make a change and not doubt him just because he hasn't been able to do much yet.
Since he has already received the award we should applaud him and his ideas and intentions to make a change will eventually benefit our country as a whole.
Bono discusses the issue of President Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. He feels that Obama has been doing his best to make America a better place and that he deserves the award for his noble intentions. Bono trusts that Obama winning this award will push him even harder to accomplish the goals he has set.
ReplyDeleteI fully agree with Bono's position that President Obama deserves the Nobel Peace Prize because of his intended actions to help better America. Obama should be praised for what he plans to accomplish because it will benefit all Americans in the long run. I think that people should give Obama time instead of doubting him because he has not been in office long enough to have completed what he plans to complete. As time progresses and he gets further into his time in office things will change and people will see why he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.

I believe that many of my peers are missing the message that Bono is trying to get across. It is easy to point out the Bono believes President Obama deserved to win the Noble Peace PRize, but I believe Bono was stating what Obama's achievment ment to America as a nation. By Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize, American is reclaiming its once idealized and positive image. This was one step into "rebranding America."
ReplyDeleteI would have to completely agree with Bono. American was based on the principles of unity, freedom of opportuniy and intended unalienable rights. Also we consider ourselves ONE nation under God. In my opinion for years America has lost these principles. Americans have been so focused on individual self rather than unity of the country as a whole. The United States is considered the "World police" but how could we police others when our own country is in need of help. If we can not set an example for ourselves, how can we expect to make changes and differences in other nations. We never followed our based principles and lost a sense of what is really ment to be an American. When Obama became the first African American President, this was also the first step into helping bring back the "American" image. This represents our belief of freedom of opportunity. By Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize is symbolises the country's faith in our president and his goals for our country and the world. These are all steps in fixing America's tarnished image and creating a new one.

In this OP-ED, Bono states that Obama deserves the hype he gets, due to his approach and strive towards changing America. Bono brought up the quotation by Obama that did not receive many headlines, but really struck Bono as important. In this quote Obama stated,"We will support the Millenium Development goals and approach next year's summer with a global plan to make them a reality. And we set our sights on the eradication of extreme poverty of our time." Bono really took these words to heart, and these few words convinced him that Obama is trying to create a society, free of poverty, and stick to the goals originally set in the Millenium Development Goals.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bono completely,Obama deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, not for what he has done but what he is attempting to do. The fact that Obama is doing his best to live up to the promises that he made in his campaign speeches and while running for office, says alot about his character. He seems to be very sincere because he continues to make efforts in recreating a selfish nation, and give inspirational speeches that touches many people's hearts. The goals that he has for ideology, climate, and poverty, may seem very big, but his attempt to eradicate the problem with such the little time that he has been in office, makes him a worthy recipient for the Nobel Peace Prize.
As Bono stated earlier,Obama's words appears to signal action, and that is what is most important in a discouraged nation. Although he may not have felt worthy of the prize, and a few others may have not thought of him as worthy, does not mean he is not worthy. Many people are seeing things in Obama that he may not yet recognize, just as Bono said he believed Obama was worthy, I believe so also, because I recognize his hard work and dedication towards reshaping such a damaged nation. The fact that he is re-emphasizing the goals earlier made by Americans to eliminate poverty, demonstrates the love and respect he has for his country, therefore making him a worthy recipient.

The article was an op-ed written by Bono about how he feels President Obama deserved the Nobel Peace Prize and hype for what he feels President Obama has already done in office with trying to enforce peace with the nations worldwide and trying remake America into a better place than before.
ReplyDeleteWhile I do agree with what Bono is saying about how Obama deserves the Nobel Peace Prize and the hype he's getting for what he has already accomplished being that he is the 1st African American President in office and that he is trying his best to clean up the mess that was done by the past President, I do disagree a bit by giving him all this hype too early in his Presidential term. I think that everyone shouldn't give all the hype and put him on a pedistalthis early. With President Obam being given all this hype, I feel that he doesn't have room to make a small mistake or agrees to pass a law that maybe the majority of the country wouldn't agree on. Through this hype that he is given, I think that his opponents and the media will search hard for anything negative about him and put him on this microscope in which that will try their hardest to puthim down. I feel that everyone should wait tip his term is over to fullygive hm the hype and credit he truly deserves for what he has already done.
In this editorial Bono is discussing his opinion on whether or not President Obama deserved to win the Noble Peace Prize. He states many reasons as to why President Obama deserved this prize. Some of those reasons include the fact that he has many goals that he would like to achieve, and that he wants to rebrand, restart, and reboot America. President Obama stated 36 words that made Bono agree with the fact that he is indeed our president and not just a celebrity. I agree with Bono because President Obama is trying to make a change for the better and I believe that he is doing a good job in trying to move forward and solve the problems that we have been faced with. He is not only trying to help America but the world as a whole. He has put together a team of dedicated people who he feels can help him with his goal to rebranding America. I believe that President Obama definitely deserved to win this award because he has plans and ideas in order to make our nation better and with all of these ideas and plans I feel like it can definitely be possible.
ReplyDelete-Re’Nada Smith
In Bono's op-ed, "Rebranding America", he discusses President Obama and why he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize award. He believes that President Obama is the person that could "rebrand, restart, and reboot" America, fighting for the end of poverty and address issues such as climate change and ideology throughout the world. I disagree with Bono's claims because although I do believe that president Obama will be an important asset to paving a way to a better earth he has not done enough and been given enough power to do so. That may seem strange because he is the president, but he still faces much adversary from his peers, council, and influential men and women around the world. I don't think that it was a good idea to give him the Nobel Peace prize because it creates more problems for him and sets him back tremendously. Now that he has won the prize he will be even more pressured to save not only the country but the entire earth. His presence and what he represents may be a step in the right direction for the rebranding of America to the rest of the world but it takes a collective effort to transform the nation and the way it appears to other countries.
ReplyDeleteThis Op-Ed is about Bono and how he feels about President Obama recieving a Nobel Peace Prize. he believes that "Obama could well be a force for peace and prosperity - if the words signal action." He is right, if and when his words signal action, then his force will be powerful and initiate the thought of change in people's mind. Without the force, people will continue to say that they want change but will not act upon it. I also feel as if he has not acted upon the things that he said he would change during his campaign. Once some of the things that were mentioned during the campaign are carried out. Then is when I think he should receive the Nobel Peace Prize for the things he has changed.
ReplyDeleteBono, a world renowned rock star, seems to have a strong opinion on the issue of whether or not President Obama should have won the Nobel Peace Prize. He considers the equation that to achieve stability, we would need security, development. He believes that President Obama deserved the award for promising the two, and he trusts Obama to “rebrand America”. His clarification for such beliefs stemmed from one of Obama’s speeches in which he pinpointed 36 words that revealed President Obama’s desire to eradicate extreme poverty. Now, while President Obama’s 36 words are beautiful to listen to, can someone show me at least ONE action that was beautiful to witness?
ReplyDeleteAlthough my peers have presented logical arguments as to why President Obama should have won the award, I deem it necessary to present the reality of the situation. He won the award for his “extraordinary efforts”, not for his even ordinary actions. If one considers the previous winners of the Peace Prize, Obama simply cannot compare. The President himself stated that it was simply a “call to action” and not necessarily a reward for any of his valiant accomplishments. Instead, what giving him the Peace Prize secretly meant was, “Don’t F it up.” President Obama was already held at a high expectation when he entered office, but now he has even more pressure to measure up to those who have won the award before him.
The problem with this premature recognition is that if, in 2015, President Obama (if he is even President at the time) has not done what they gave him the award for saying he was going to do, the Peace Prize will have lost all credibility. What will “achieving a Peace Prize” mean anymore, since it is given out to just anyone who can write an awe-inspiring speech promising to create peace. However, he has already received the Prize, so arguing whether or not he deserved it doesn’t matter anymore. What does matter is what he does to live up to such a high honor. Will he deliver the almost impossible things he has promised, or will he be known as the President who erroneously won the Nobel Peace Prize award for guaranteeing wonderful things but nothing else?

ReplyDeleteFinally, a well-written opinion editorial that I completely agree with and don't cringe at while reading! First I'd like to say Bono, I love you. Bono is making it clear that he believes President Obama deserved the Nobel Piece Prize Award. There has been controversy over Obama receiving this award. Why? Because those who disagree with Bono don't truly understand the 36 words said by our President. “We will support the Millennium Development Goals, and approach next year’s summit with a global plan to make them a reality. And we will set our sights on the eradication of extreme poverty in our time.” President Obama could well be a force for peace and prosperity.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, after reading a few of my peers responses I was happy to find most of them agreeing with Bono's position. But one, Talayne Gardiner, disagrees AND makes false accusations about our President, and it infuriates me. How has he ruined the American economy? I'd like to know where your evidence is for that. Obama is trying to help, and he's already positively influenced America. The fact that he is so inspirational and meaningful to Americans (and Europeans as well) definitely shows his qualities and reasoning behind the committees choice. So where's the love? Don't hate on Obama, he's just trying to execute peaceful greatness. With that said, I'm admitting that not only Bono agrees and supports the award going to President Obama, but I do too.
